Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
Félix Auger-Aliassime has reached a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time in three years and will now try to build on that against the Australian. World No. 8 Alex de Minaur has made a second major quarter-final of the season, but he has never gone beyond this stage.
Félix Auger-Aliassime
Auger-Aliassime is enjoying one of his best spells in recent years: he has won seven of his last eight matches, including a victory over world No. 3 Alexander Zverev. In New York Félix has dropped just one set and has posted excellent first-serve statistics. The Canadian has fired 47 aces across four matches and has averaged 78% of points won behind his first serve. In a recent match against Andrey Rublev, Auger-Aliassime converted four break points and won in two hours 15 minutes.
Alex de Minaur
de Minaur has looked reliable and has also surrendered only one set at the tournament, yet the level of opposition was not the highest, with none ranked inside the top 50. Grand Slam quarter-finals have been an issue for Alex; in his previous four he lost in straight sets (0:3). Against top opponents on hard courts, the Australian struggles — across seven such matches this season he has always dropped at least one set.
Félix Auger-Aliassime vs Alex de Minaur Prediction
Auger-Aliassime is beating opponents convincingly and pushing elite players. In all five head-to-head meetings with Alex de Minaur, the Canadian has taken at least one set.
