However, facing the defending champions of the Copa Libertadores, Atlético Mineiro, in the quarter-finals will be a significant challenge. Atlético Mineiro have secured a mid-table position in the Brazilian Serie A, allowing them to focus on the international competition.
Fluminense
Despite a 2:1 loss to Juventude, Fluminense have managed to stay out of the relegation zone, currently five points ahead of Vitória and Corinthians in terms of dropped points. They remain one of the least entertaining teams in Brazil, with just eight matches exceeding 2.5 goals out of 25 rounds. On average, their matches feature two goals. In the previous round of the Copa Libertadores against Grêmio (4-3 aggregate score), Fluminense took a risky early lead in the second leg with two goals but failed to register a single shot on target after halftime.
Atlético Mineiro
The round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores also posed challenges for Atlético Mineiro. They managed to progress by defeating San Lorenzo de Almagro (1:1 and 1:0), though the second leg at home featured fewer attacking opportunities (3-6 in shots on target). Under Gabriel Milito, Atlético have often resorted to ball control, with their wingbacks joining the three-man defence.
Fluminense vs Atlético Mineiro Prediction
In the 24th round of Série A, Fluminense overcame Atlético Mineiro with a 2:0 away victory. On that occasion, Fluminense benefitted from effective finishing, but now neither team is likely to take significant risks in attack.
