Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Euro match.
England have already fallen to the strength of France. Now it's the turn of Wales, who have already suffered one heavy defeat in the group stage.
France (women)
The opening match of the group effectively decided the race for first place. While the Netherlands remain mathematically in contention, France could have qualification wrapped up before that meeting. The key result was their convincing win over England. The squad completely outplayed their opponents. They dominated the physical battles, winning 59% of ground duels and 56% of aerial challenges. These advantages translated directly into goals in the 36th and 39th minutes.
Wales (women)
Wales reached the finals via the play-offs, having come through League B — and even that was a hard-fought path. Unsurprisingly, they were soundly beaten 0:3 by the Netherlands, who are considered the third-strongest side in the group. The Dutch also hit the woodwork once and struck the crossbar twice — all without a single red card shown. The gulf in quality was clear throughout the match.
France (women) vs Wales (women) Prediction
These sides last faced off during the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Back then, Wales finished second in their group but still lost both meetings with the Netherlands (0:2, 1:2). Since then, the difference between the teams has only grown. A convincing win for France looks highly likely.
