Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Fulham and Brentford sit next to each other in the mid-standings in the English Premier League, but the former have a one-point advantage, so a draw would preserve the status quo. This is a matchweek five fixture.
Fulham
Fulham earned that advantage thanks to a win in the previous round. Coming off the international break, Fulham beat Leeds United at home (1:0). The team pressed Leeds United for long spells and scored only in the 94th minute, when a Leeds United player turned the ball into his own net. Fulham have also scored once in two of the other three matches. They are steady at Craven Cottage and on their travels: last season Fulham were mid-standings in both the home and away standings.
Brentford
Brentford contrived to lose to Fulham twice in the 2024/25 English Premier League, first away (1:2) and then at the Gtech Community Stadium (2:3). Back then Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa were available and both scored in the home match. But the defending undermined their efforts: they conceded three from 0.99 xGA and fell slightly short in attack despite 2.87 xG. In the current campaign Brentford have scored in every match, yet that has yielded only one win. On Tuesday the team had another demanding fixture in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa. They advanced only on penalties (1:1, 4:2 on pens).
Fulham vs Brentford Prediction
The mood may be positive, but there is likely to be some fatigue. A rested Fulham are likely to probe Brentford’s back line. We expect that to lead to goals conceded by the visitors, yet the visitors clearly carry a threat as well.
