Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Getafe have made the stronger start to the season with nine points from five matches and a typically solid defensive record. Alavés, meanwhile, have been more inconsistent, alternating wins and defeats, and historically find it difficult against this opponent.
Getafe
Getafe have won three of their five games, including surprise victories over Sevilla (2:1) and Celta Vigo (2:0). Remarkably, four of their opening fixtures were away from home, where they picked up most of their points. At the Coliseum, Getafe play a pragmatic brand of football – compact at the back, threatening from free kicks and corners and counter-attacks. High-scoring games are rare, and so far they have not been involved in a match with more than 3.5 goals.
Alavés
Alavés are capable of troubling the favourites, as shown by a 1:1 draw with Atlético Madrid and a 1:0 win over Athletic Bilbao. However, when forced to dictate play they struggle, highlighted by their recent 1:2 defeat to Sevilla. Alavés too favour a pragmatic style, and none of their five league games this season have seen over three goals. Against Getafe they have only one win in their last 12 meetings, and just twice in that run has the total gone over 2.5.
Getafe vs Alavés Prediction
Getafe’s home strength and defensive discipline make them tough to beat. This clash looks set to follow the same pattern as recent meetings: tight, low-scoring and hard-fought. The hosts should at least avoid defeat, and goals are likely to be scarce.
