Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
An excellent start to 2025 with a triumph in the Supercopa de España and the successful signing of Dani Olmo puts Barcelona in high spirits ahead of their match against Getafe. The underdogs from the suburbs of Madrid also had a strong first half of January, but two of their three wins came against weaker opponents in the Cup.
Getafe
Since the start of December, Getafe have failed to score in five of their seven matches, including regular time in cup matches. On Wednesday against Pontevedra (1:0) from the fourth tier, they managed only 0.66 xG, controlling the ball just 17% of the time (they played with a man down for an entire half). Getafe have one of the poorest attacks in La Liga: in 19 games, they've amassed 19.07 xG (fourth lowest) and scored 13 goals — tying for last place with Real Valladolid.
Barcelona
In contrast, Barcelona possess the most potent attack in Spain, if not Europe. Of course, with only one win in their last five rounds of La Liga, it's crucial for the Catalans to regain momentum, but their current form is not in doubt — they've netted 16 goals across four matches in January. Against Real Betis (5:1) in the Copa del Rey's Round of 16, five different players scored, and Dani Olmo provided two assists from a false nine position. In that encounter, Barcelona produced a total of 2.02 xG and 18 shots in 90 minutes.
Getafe vs Barcelona Prediction
In 2024, Getafe suffered two clean-sheet defeats to Barcelona (0:4 and 0:1). The underdog will not halt Barcelona, who are making a push in the title race.
