Adam Williams presents his prediction for the English Premiership rugby match.
Gloucester sit two places above Harlequins in fifth, but are they truly stronger than the London side? One thing is certain: both clubs are currently inconsistent.
Gloucester
Unlike the Harlequins, Gloucester compete in the Challenge Cup, a tournament with clubs of a lower level than the current Gloucester side, who finished ninth in last season's Premiership. Last weekend, they were soundly beaten by the current bottom side of France, Vannes (19:43). Of course, playing away comes with its challenges, but Gloucester haven't been particularly successful at home either, with just three wins in their last seven games.
Harlequins
While Harlequins' performance can be assessed through their Champions Cup matches, it's more logical to consider the Premiership. This season, they have recorded one win and two losses from their three away outings. Unsurprisingly, the victory came against struggling Exeter Chiefs (36:19), while the losses were to reigning champions Northampton Saints (29:33) and last season's third-place team Sale Sharks (11:12). Harlequins fans should find optimism in the emphatic home win over the Stormers in the Champions Cup (53:16) and the contract extension with captain Alex Dombrandt. The number eight is now the 10th player to extend his contract in recent weeks.
Gloucester vs Harlequins Prediction
It's clear that the visitors won't lose by much, if at all. In their last five Premiership encounters, Gloucester have beaten Harlequins only twice. The maximum margin was a mere two points (28:26) back in February 2023, and there won’t be much difference in this match.
