Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the for the friendly match.
In the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Greece will take on two teams that recently featured in the European Championship. As part of their build-up, they’ve scheduled a match against another opponent who also played in Germany less than a year ago.
Greece
There is a strong argument that Greece are the more capable side. After all, it was Greece, not Slovakia, who advanced through the play-offs by defeating Scotland, the third-placed team from League A of the UEFA Nations League, with a 3:1 aggregate scoreline. The squad narrowly missed out on Euro 2024 qualification, losing to Georgia, who subsequently showed their quality on the big stage. Greece have looked solid, particularly on home soil. While they have suffered defeats, those came at the hands of the Netherlands (0:1) and England (0:3) — both teams playing at a significantly higher level.
Slovakia
Slovakia came close to eliminating England at Euro 2024, forcing extra time in the round of 16 before being undone by a stunning overhead kick from Jude Bellingham. Since then, Slovakia have managed only a second-place finish in their UEFA Nations League group at Division C level. They were unable to defeat Sweden in either meeting (2:2, 1:2) and were eliminated in the play-offs by Slovenia (0:0, 0:1).
Greece vs Slovakia Prediction
These teams haven’t faced each other in over 11 years, not even in a friendly. That’s about to change. Like many observers, we back Greece as the favourites and expect them to come out on top.
