Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
Six years ago, a young Corentin Moutet stunned Grigor Dimitrov in the first round at Wimbledon. Back then, the Frenchman had just cracked the top 100 and still managed to pull off a five-set comeback win. Fresh from a strong showing in Mallorca, Moutet will fancy his chances of toppling the Bulgarian once again.

In that 2019 clash, Dimitrov — then struggling for form after falling out of the top 10 — let a two-set lead slip as Moutet rallied to win 2:6, 3:6, 7:6, 6:3, 6:1. The momentum shifted with the third-set tiebreak, and the Frenchman didn’t look back. This year, Dimitrov started his campaign with a straight-sets win over Yoshihito Nishioka (6:2, 6:3, 6:4), looking composed and clinical.

Moutet, however, is in arguably the best grass-court form of his career. He dispatched Francisco Comesaña in his opener (6:4, 6:4, 6:2) for his fifth win in six matches. That run includes a finals appearance in Mallorca, where he beat three top-60 players — solid prep for SW19.
Grigor Dimitrov vs Corentin Moutet Prediction
Dimitrov, meanwhile, skipped the grass warm-ups to recover from a hip injury sustained in his Roland Garros opener — his fourth injury retirement this season. At 34, his fitness is becoming more fragile, and while he’s still capable of top-level tennis, it’s tough to back him as a heavy favourite without reservations.
