Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
Hamad Medjedovic continues his campaign at Roland Garros and has now advanced to the third round — his best-ever performance at a Grand Slam. The young Serbian, currently training under Novak Djokovic, has bounced back from injury and is taking full advantage of a favourable draw. Next up for him is Daniel Altmaier, a German player who has traditionally performed well in Paris, although inconsistency remains a recurring issue in his game.
Hamad Medjedovic
Medjedovic is enjoying a strong season, winning 19 of 27 matches (71%). In Paris, he dispatched world No. 96 Kamil Majchrzak and No. 109 Francisco Cerundolo without dropping a set. Across those two victories, Medjedovic registered 17 aces and won 73% of points on his first serve. While injuries disrupted the early part of his 2024 season, he is now showing signs of maturity in his game. Back in February, he already defeated Daniel Altmaier in Marseille, prevailing 7:5, 6:7, 6:4 and converting three break points in the process.
Daniel Altmaier
Daniel Altmaier rose to prominence with a fourth-round run at Roland Garros in 2020, but has since struggled to build on that momentum. This year, he has beaten Taylor Fritz and a player ranked No. 86 Vit Kopriva, although the American is not known for his clay-court game and the Czech opponent was of a clearly lower calibre. Overall, Altmaier has underperformed against top-100 opponents, losing 24 of his last 40 matches in that bracket. In 2024, he has won 12 of 19 matches on clay but has only progressed beyond the third round once — at a Challenger event in Turin.
Hamad Medjedovic vs Daniel Altmaier Prediction
Hamad Medjedovic appears to be in superior physical shape and form, has not yet dropped a set, and is capitalising on his draw. Daniel Altmaier has not demonstrated reliable clay-court form recently and has already lost to Hamad Medjedovic this season. Medjedovic is expected to win and move on to the next round.
