Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Champions League match.
Last week, Manchester City ensured they didn't drop any points and maintained their lead over Barcelona, thanks to a home victory against Hammarby (2:0). On the Swedish side's pitch, Manchester City will again be the favourites — bookmakers predict that on Thursday, they will have plenty of opportunities to secure a big win.
Hammarby (women)
The loss to Manchester City interrupted Hammarby's four-game winning streak in their domestic league, where the level of competition is significantly lower. In Manchester, the Scandinavian team managed just two shots on target with 31% possession. It was fortunate for Hammarby that the English team didn’t field their strongest lineup. In the second leg, even with the advantage of home turf, the Swedish team could face a bigger defeat.
Manchester City (women)
Last week's match against Hammarby served as a test for Manchester City ahead of their Women's Super League clash with Chelsea (0:2). In London, they had more possession (65-35% in possession) but took fewer shots (2-6 in shots on target) and conceded two late goals. Clearly, in the fourth round of the Champions League, Manchester City need to maintain their lead over Barcelona; before the return leg against the Catalans, they aim to remain at the top of the group.
Hammarby (women) vs Manchester City (women) Prediction
Motivated after their slip-up in the league, Manchester City will play aggressively in Stockholm. Hammarby will find it tough, as their defence has already shown vulnerabilities against top-tier opponents.
