Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Conference League match.
Legia Warszawa dropped down from the Europa League to the Conference League a round later than Hibernian, which is why they go into this tie as favourites, even away from home.
Hibernian
David Gray’s Hibernian were arguably the biggest revelation of last spring in the Scottish Premiership, and the team now heads into a second season under their 37-year-old manager, for whom this is his first independent role — and Hibernian are far from just a name. Domestically they average two goals per match, and they have carried that attacking edge into Europe, seeing off Partizan Belgrade 2:0 and then 2:3.
Legia Warszawa
Legia Warszawa do not look quite so intimidating. The Warsaw club only finished sixth in the last Ekstraklasa campaign and reached the Europa League via their Polish Cup triumph, which came in a rare 4:3 scoreline against Pogoń Szczecin in the final. At present they sit fifth in the league with a game in hand. Defence is hardly their strongest suit — as shown by a 1:4 away defeat to AEK Larnaca — though they can hit back themselves, having beaten the same Cypriots (2:1) at home. It is worth noting that former Romania head coach Edward Iordănescu has only just taken charge of the side.
Hibernian vs Legia Warszawa Prediction
This points to goals, at least three, and to Hibernian holding their own. After all, the only side Legia have beaten away from home in Europe recently was the much weaker Aktobe.
