Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Indian Wells Masters match.
The two last met nearly six years ago on the clay courts of Madrid, where Hubert Hurkacz claimed a straight-sets victory. A lot has changed since then, with both now firmly established in the world’s top 50 and consistently competing at the highest level.
Hubert Hurkacz
Hurkacz has struggled for consistency this season, entering Indian Wells with a 6-6 record. While Poland reached the United Cup final, his individual performances were underwhelming, winning just two of five matches. His only standout result came in Rotterdam, where he reached the semi-finals and took down top-10 player Andrey Rublev. In the previous round, he needed 90 minutes to see off French qualifier Hugo Gaston in a tough encounter (7:5, 6:3).
Alex de Minaur
De Minaur, by contrast, has been one of the most consistent players of 2025. Aside from a first-round elimination in Dubai, he has reached at least the quarter-finals at every tournament this season, including a deep run at the Australian Open and a runner-up finish in Rotterdam, where he pushed Carlos Alcaraz in a tight final (4:6, 6:3, 2:6). The Australian breezed past David Goffin in just 74 minutes (6:2, 6:2).
Hubert Hurkacz vs Alex de Minaur Prediction
Although Hurkacz is capable of making this a close contest, de Minaur is in superior form, both in terms of results and consistency. His relentless baseline play and speed should give him the edge in key moments, making him the likely winner.
