Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Winston-Salem match.
The Winston-Salem opener sees France’s Hugo Gaston looking to halt a run of poor results, but standing in his way is Hungary’s Márton Fucsovics, who is enjoying one of his best seasons in recent years.
Hugo Gaston
Hugo Gaston has endured a difficult campaign with just 15 wins against 25 defeats. His struggles are most evident against top-100 opposition, losing nine of his last 11 such matches. On hard courts in 2025, Gaston has often crumbled in extended rallies, while his serve offers little advantage. He holds a 9-9 record on the surface this season, with two first-round eliminations across his last three tournaments.
Márton Fucsovics
Márton Fucsovics, by contrast, is in excellent form with 32 wins this year, including a hard-court Challenger title in Manama. The Hungarian has been particularly strong on fast courts, winning nine of his last ten matches on hard. He also has a fine record in Winston-Salem, having cleared the opening round every year since 2021.
Hugo Gaston vs Márton Fucsovics Prediction
Fucsovics comes in as the clear favourite, with superior physical condition and a game well suited to countering Gaston. Expect the Hungarian to take this in straight sets.
