Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
This is a key fixture for both teams, as they are competing to avoid elimination. Hull City currently sit just above the relegation zone, while Plymouth Argyle are within it.
Hull City
The East Coast side have not secured safety, having won only one of five matches in February. That single victory came away at Sunderland (1:0). Hull City’s main issue is a lack of goals – in those five fixtures they did not score more than one goal per game, and since the start of the year they have achieved this in only two of 11 matches. They recorded clean sheets only in the matches against Sunderland and Millwall (1:0).
Plymouth Argyle
Under the management of Miron Muslic, Plymouth Argyle have experienced difficulty in scoring. Since early February, only Blackburn Rovers (0:2) and Manchester City (1:3) in the return match of the FA Cup fifth round have managed to score more than one goal against them – even Liverpool managed only a single goal. Over their last seven fixtures, they have earned eight points from five league games, placing them 17th in the standings—the same position as Hull City, albeit with a three-point advantage.
Hull City vs Plymouth Argyle Prediction
Plymouth Argyle understand that conceding no more than one goal will almost certainly translate to points. Their recent matches against Premier League teams may have improved their defence. The players and coaching staff have identified their shortcomings and recognise their capacity to compete. We predict that Hull City will score no more than one goal.
