Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Hull City
It’s worth noting from the start, that Hull City ended last season with a loss to Plymouth. In the pre-season of the new season, they didn’t win a single friendly game (4 losses and 2 draws out of 6 matches). In their first EFL Championship match, they were tied 1-1 at home with Bristol City. The team’s play is still unclear. The club leaders dream of returning to the Premier League. Maybe results will improve later, but now things don’t look good.
Sheffield Wednesday
After the first round, Sheffield Wednesday leads the EFL Championship table. They beat Plymouth 4-0 at home. Plymouth's famous coach Wayne Rooney said Sheffield was the best at crosses last season. "All four goals came from crosses or passes from the sides into the penalty area," Rooney noted. This is despite Sheffield's modest pre-season (1 win, 1 loss, 1 draw in 3 games). Last season, Sheffield almost left the league but managed to stay in the Championship.
Hull City - Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
In the last 10 years, Hull City has won more games between these teams. Sheffield Wednesday has only won a couple of times. Now, they have a good chance to improve their record. In their last match Sheffield Wednesday at home won convincingly.
