Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Despite suffering a third consecutive defeat and dropping three places into the relegation zone, Hull City are viewed as favourites for this clash. Will they manage to succeed?
Hull City
Hull City are actually on an eight-match winless streak. Their struggles are due to being in the bottom three for converting potential: with an xG of 21.23, they have only scored 16 goals. In their most recent away game against Luton Town (0:1), they created twice as many chances (14-7 in shots, 1.55-0.83 in xG), yet the shots on target were identical to the hosts at two each. Moreover, they squandered all three of their clear scoring opportunities. So, where will the victories come from?
Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are in a similar predicament, though their situation is slightly better. Their xG exceeds actual goals by only 3.14, but no one would praise them for their match against Cardiff City (1:1), where they had an xG of 2.77 compared to the Welsh side's 1.25. Danny Röhl has managed to organise their defence, although they do have occasional breakdowns, as seen against Watford (2:6). In the other five matches, there have been no more than two goals per game, sometimes with one side failing to score.
Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
Hull City's descent will continue, and there will be few goals scored. The hosts often engage in total under 2.5 outcomes (in six of their last seven games). You could opt for a double chance on the visitors, but we will combine it with a total under 2.5.
