Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Euro 2024 match.
Hungary
Hungary were on a 14-games unbeaten run prior to the friendly games played in June. They lost on June 4 in Dublin (1:2). Hungary were ahead of Serbia in their qualifying group, which seemed to be one of the weakest. The Hungarians scored 3 goals by 22nd minute in the game against Israel (3:0), but after the half-time their opponents were closer to scoring a goal (0.45 xG vs 0.09). In current Hungarian squad, we focus on Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth). They are the most creative players.
Switzerland
Last European Championship saw Switzerland surprisingly eliminating France in the Round of 16 on penalties, although their opponents had a 2-goal lead by the last 10 minutes of the game. The qualifying tournament was quite messy, with Switzerland finishing 2nd behind Romania. A new star is born, though. Zeki Amdouni (Burnley) had a perfect tournament, scoring 6 goals. Each line in this Swiss squad has a top player, with a special focus on Sommer (GK), Akanji (DF) and Xhaka (MF).
Hungary – Switzerland prediction
The unbeaten run of Hungary in the qualifiers is somewhat forgotten now. They’re considered outsiders in the game versus Switzerland, as their opponent has a better squad. Swiss players are experienced. They have a chance to win.
