Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EuroBasket match.
Group D, as expected, continues to produce surprises for basketball fans. Slovenia are only fourth and are in real danger of missing the play-offs. They now have to beat Spain.
Iceland
Iceland are the clear underdogs in Group D. They have lost each of their three games, which was hardly a surprise. Their offence has been ineffective: only 70 points per game on average, and that has come against modest opponents — Belgium, Poland and Israel. Defensively, the picture is similar: their defence is porous.
Slovenia
After losing their first two, Slovenia responded and beat Belgium (86:69). As expected, Luka Dončić led the way with a triple-double: 26 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists. Crucially, he is averaging 33 points per game at the tournament. That is a remarkable statistic. Yes, Slovenia have issues on the defensive end, yet Iceland are unlikely to exploit them.
Iceland vs Slovenia Prediction
Slovenia have no margin for error, so the coaching staff are unlikely to rest anyone. In that case, Iceland look to have little chance. We expect a comfortable win for the designated visitors.
