Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Polina Kudermetova’s debut in the Wimbledon main draw will be a real trial by fire: she’s up against Iga Swiatek. Despite slipping to fourth in the rankings, the Pole remains a strong favourite — not just for this match, but for the tournament as a whole.
Iga Swiatek
Swiatek heads into Wimbledon with eight wins from her last ten matches and a recent final appearance in Bad Homburg. Even during a dip in form, she’s been impressive on grass, particularly with her serve — winning 76% of points behind her first serve and averaging six aces per match. Her overall grass-court record is solid too, with 21 career wins to nine defeats.
Polina Kudermetova
Kudermetova, meanwhile, is on a six-match losing streak — all by margins of at least five games. Her recent performances have been particularly poor, including a defeat to Sharma, who’s ranked outside the top 100. Her record on grass is just as underwhelming: two matches in the past two years, both lost.
Iga Swiatek vs Polina Kudermetova Prediction
Swiatek boasts far more experience on grass, and especially at Wimbledon, where she reached the quarter-finals in 2023. Kudermetova has been struggling even against modest opposition, and she stands little chance against one of the game's elite.
