Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WNBA match.
Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever lost to the Phoenix Mercury (79:85), but they have maintained their overall level and look strong on their home court. In the most recent head-to-head meeting, the Fever beat the Chicago Sky (92:70), and the head-to-head series is in their favour with five consecutive wins. In offence, they are in the league’s top six, averaging around 82 points, using the perimeter well and converting free throws with confidence. The Fever are inconsistent in defence, but at home they more often hold opponents to around 75-78 points.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky defeated the Connecticut Sun (88:64), but that appears to be an exception rather than a trend. They are much weaker away from home, with two wins in their last ten away games. In offence, the Sky average just under 79 points, and their three-point shooting is inconsistent. Against the Indiana Fever they struggle: their defence is often exposed and their offence finds it difficult to cope with a higher tempo. Given the post-season push, the Sky will struggle to shut down the opponents’ key players.
Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky Prediction
The head-to-head meetings and current form point to a significant edge for the Indiana Fever. However, the key factor is tempo. Both squads can play an up-tempo, open-court game, and with the defence of the Chicago Sky looking unreliable, there is every chance of a high-scoring contest. The average total in their recent meetings sits around 160. Given the offensive upside of the Fever and the defensive lapses of the Sky, we are backing the Total Over.
