Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
Inter Milan have turned the page on the Simone Inzaghi era, and now Cristian Chivu will aim to bring silverware back to the club. The opening match against Torino will be his first official test, discounting the Club World Cup.
Inter Milan
The Romanian coach was appointed at short notice before that tournament but still managed to top his group. He went out in the first knockout round to eventual semi-finalists Fluminense (0:2). The experienced core of the squad remains intact, although reinforcements have been scarce so far. Work is underway to strengthen the attack, with Ademola Lookman of Atalanta the prime target.
Torino
Under Paolo Vanoli, Torino were stuck in mid-table, which cost the coach his job. Now Marco Baroni, recently dismissed by Lazio, has taken charge. His previous team played attractive football on a limited budget, but he now faces the challenge of replacing goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić, who has joined champions Napoli. None of the current options in goal inspire total confidence, particularly with a trip to face Inter Milan up first.
Inter Milan vs Torino Prediction
Cristian Chivu looks ready for the step up to a top club, having already kept Parma safe in Serie A. Inter Milan should beat Torino regardless of the line-up — they have done so in each of the last six meetings. Half of those wins, however, were by the narrowest of margins. That is the angle to back here.
