Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Ipswich Town have struggled to find form since relegation from the English Premier League, while Sheffield United remain without a point, having lost all four opening fixtures. Both clubs need a reset, but their approach to matches is cautious, so a high-scoring match looks unlikely.
Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town have yet to win this season. The opening rounds brought draws with Birmingham City and Southampton (both 1:1), followed by a defeat to Preston North End (0:1) and then they shared the points with Derby County (2:2). In the standings the team sits 20th on three points. The issues are clear: poor finishing and frequent defensive errors. On the other hand, Ipswich Town play a little bolder at home and can scrap for a result, as shown in the match with Derby County, where they salvaged it in the closing minutes.
Sheffield United
After disappointment in the play-offs for promotion to the English Premier League, Sheffield United have completely failed to start under a new head coach. Four straight league defeats and just one goal scored are an alarming sign. They began by losing to Swansea City and Millwall (both 0:1), then went down to Middlesbrough by the same scoreline. There is a lack of fresh ideas in attack, and despite the compact approach the defence still makes regular mistakes. Against that backdrop, even troubled Ipswich Town look favourites.
Ipswich Town vs Sheffield United Prediction
Both teams are having problems in attack, and their head-to-head meetings in recent years have also been short on goals. Total Under 2.5 has landed in their last five meetings. Ipswich Town are focused on results and do not open up, while Sheffield United simply cannot create many chances. Given current form and the cautious style, a Total Under angle is the optimal approach.
