Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Friendly International rugby match.
Last weekend, these two teams left the pitch with markedly contrasting emotions. Historically, Argentina haven't stood much of a chance against their opponents, but they have transformed over the past couple of years.
Ireland
In their match against the All Blacks, Ireland led for just 21 minutes, while their opponents commanded the game for 34 minutes. The three-time world champions capitalised on Damian McKenzie's six successful penalty kicks. Their first try came only in the 69th minute, slightly widening the gap. Therefore, it's worth keeping grounded expectations about the Irish side this time around.
Argentina
Back in 2021, at the same Aviva Stadium, the South Americans conceded seven tries against Ireland, ending with a (7:53) result. However, it was Argentina, not Ireland, who finished fourth at the 2023 World Cup. It was Argentina, not Ireland, who defeated New Zealand on their home turf this year (38-30). While the Italian team they beat last week is an easier rival compared to the All Blacks, their 50:18 victory deserves applause. It's been a long while since Argentina secured such a dominating win over Italy.
Ireland vs Argentina Prediction
Should Argentina triumph, it would be their first victory in Dublin in a decade. Of course, the hosts are favoured. Nevertheless, a more respectful bet on the visitors with a handicap of +12.5 might be wise. Apart from their heavy defeat three years ago, the Argentinians lost by narrower margins in their two previous matches at Aviva Stadium (19:28 and 17:28).
