Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Stuttgart match.
Jan-Lennard Struff enters this match with a modest record in 2025 — just five wins from 19 appearances — but the transition to grass and the backing of a home crowd in Stuttgart offer a fresh platform to reset. His opponent, Jiří Lehečka, is still struggling to find his rhythm on the surface and hasn’t shown the explosiveness required for grass-court success just yet.
Jan-Lennard Struff
Struff has made a habit of playing his best tennis in Stuttgart. Since the start of 2023, he's won seven of eight matches here — a testament to how well his power-based, front-foot game suits the slick grass courts. His big first serve and flat forehand have proven difficult to handle, and he kicked off this year's campaign with a routine win over Matteo Arnaldi, claiming 90% of points behind his first serve and cruising in straight sets.
Jiří Lehečka
The Czech has limited grass-court exposure, playing only eight matches on the surface since 2023 — half of which went the distance. He's managed just two wins across those contests, never with a margin greater than three games. In the opening round, Lehečka got past Benjamin Bonzi (No.61) but showed vulnerability on serve with a first-serve percentage of just 66%. While he’s posted 19 wins in 30 matches this year, he’s also crashed out early in half of the Masters-level tournaments he’s entered.
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Jiří Lehečka Prediction
Struff looks sharp, is fully dialled in on home soil, and has a game tailor-made for grass. Lehečka, by contrast, is still adjusting and far less convincing on this surface. While the Czech may be favoured, the better choice is the German — expect him to keep it competitive.
