Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Eastbourne match.
Reaching the decisive stage is already a surprise for Jenson Brooksby, whereas for Daniel Evans it’s a familiar scenario — a quarter-final is a round Evans regularly reaches. With the advantage of home support, he has a strong chance of progressing to the semi-finals.
Jenson Brooksby
Jenson Brooksby (No.149 ATP) returned to the tour with a title on clay, but has found the transition to grass more challenging. This season, he has managed four wins from seven matches on grass. In Eastbourne, he defeated Francisco Comesaña and Nuno Borges, neither of whom are considered strong performers on this surface. The Argentine has a career record of two wins and three losses on grass, while the Portuguese player has won just eight of his 21 matches on it. Brooksby's current statistics are underwhelming — he has averaged a 62% first-serve success rate and just two aces per match.
Daniel Evans
Daniel Evans (No.170 ATP) appears to be hitting form at the right moment. He came through qualifying this week and then delivered confident performances against higher-ranked opponents, including second seed Tommy Paul. His grass-court form this season stands at six wins and three losses. Evans also brings a wealth of experience to this stage, having won 74 of his 105 career quarter-finals.
Jenson Brooksby vs Daniel Evans Prediction
Daniel Evans has been significantly more assured throughout the tournament and is playing with greater maturity. Jenson Brooksby has not yet faced an opponent well-versed on grass, making this his first serious challenge on the surface — one he is unlikely to overcome.
