Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA tennis match
Jessica Pegula
The tournament in Canada is truly special for Jessica Pegula. Her record here is 16 wins in 18 matches. Last season, she swept Liudmila Samsonova off the court in the final (6:1, 6:0), and on the way to the decisive match, she beat Iga Swiatek and Correy Gauff. This year, the Toronto tournament is only Pegula’s fifth in the last four months. The American almost missed the clay court. Anyway, Jessics is on top again in Canada, she has four wins in a row without dropping a set.
Amanda Anisimova
Amanda Anisimova has become the lowest-ranked finalist in Canadian Open history. The world No.132 overcame a tough semi-final against Emma Navarro (6:3, 2:6, 6:2), despite the strongest wind and blisters on her foot. For Anisimova the upcoming final will be only the fourth in her professional career and her first at such high-level competition.
Jessica Pegula - Amanda Anisimova Prediction
Pegula leads in head-to-head matches (2-0). Her last victory was at the Charleston tournament in April this year. In the last 12 months, Jessica has won three final matches, so we’re betting on the favourite with a handicap.
