Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Ascot John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (Group 3, 6f, 3yo+) horse racing event.
The three-year-old Jarraaf has won twice in his last two starts, both handicaps over 6f at Ascot. Prior to these, he attempted 7f on two occasions but with less impressive outcomes. It seems the team has found his ideal distance and racecourse, leading the crowd to anticipate a third consecutive win.
The workhorse English Oak has been busy this season with six starts, all at 7f. In his latest appearance, he finished second in the Cup Stakes, despite a slow start and losing a shoe. He claimed a victory earlier this year at Ascot in a handicap, but the track was good to firm.
Purosangue from Andrew Balding's stable has also had six races this season, yet remains winless. He went into the Stewards' Cup as the favourite but had a disappointing run, displaying nerves and finishing 21st out of 25.
Wiltshire has changed ownership and moved to a new stable this year, winning two out of four starts, both at 6f. He underperformed in the HKJC World Pool Handicap in May but bounced back with a victory on an all-weather track, followed by a runner-up finish at Haydock after a summer break. Unibet offers 9/1 odds for him to secure a third win for William Haggas.
