Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Cincinnati match.
João Fonseca’s impressive run in Cincinnati continued with a dramatic comeback against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Now the Brazilian faces Terence Atmane, for whom this is a rare chance to shine at this stage of a tournament.
João Fonseca
Fonseca has been strong in 2025, particularly against players outside the top 100, losing to such opponents only twice in 15 matches. In Cincinnati, he overcame Alejandro Davidovich Fokina after trailing 0:4 in the second set, having lost the first in a tie-break. The Spaniard eventually retired at 4:5 in the second set, while Fonseca hit seven aces and landed 66% of first serves. His hard-court record this season is impressive — 19 wins in 23 matches — and includes Challenger titles in Canberra and Phoenix.
Terence Atmane
Atmane battled past Flavio Cobolli (6:4, 3:6, 7:6) with a high tempo and minimal errors. However, his record against top-50 opponents remains weak, with only four wins in 14 matches. The Frenchman heavily relies on a strong start, having lost all five of his most recent matches when dropping the opening set. He is also likely to feel the effects of four matches already played in Cincinnati.
João Fonseca vs Terence Atmane Prediction
The difference in quality and mental readiness for big matches should be decisive. Fonseca is strong on hard courts and deals comfortably with lower-ranked opposition. While Atmane has done well to reach this stage, he is unlikely to match the Brazilian’s level.
