Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2024 Australian Open match.
Jordan Thompson
Thompson had a perfect tournament in Brisbane in the beginning of January, beating Vukic (2:0) and Nadal (2:1). It was a more complicated match against Vukic in the first round of the Australian Open (3:2). Jordan committed 60 mistakes and let his opponent have 15 break points. It was just a matter of luck for Thompson that Vukic used only 20% of them. It’s going to be hard for Jordan to pass by Tsitsipas, playing like that.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
The Greek player had two games in the United Cup in the beginning of January. He didn't perform amazingly, though, beating Dias (2:0) and losing to Zverev (0:2). Stefanos was great in the first round of the Australian Open. He had 73% of the wins on 1st serve and 54% of the wins on the second one, having 16 break points per game and using 7 of them. A year ago, Tsitsipas reached the final, lost to Djoković. Thompson isn’t the one to stop the Greek.
Jordan Thompson – Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction
Stefanos was supposed to start the tournament with the game against Berrettini, but the Italian player withdrew, with young Belgian Zizou Bergs taking his place. Tsitsipas won in 4 sets, losing the first one. The game ended quickly, Tsitsipas spent only three hours to succeed.
Thompson performed really poorly in the first round. If he had such problems plying against Vukic there’s no chance he can succeed in the match versus Tsitsipas.
