Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Newmarket Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1, 6f, fillies, 2yo) horse racing event.
Babouche is rightly the favourite. Last time out, she bested Whistlejacket in the Phoenix Stakes (Group 1), and prior to that, she secured victory in the mixed company of the Anglesey Stakes (Group 3). She made her debut running against her gender, where, as you might guess, she came out on top. The Ger Lyons-trained filly will, as usual, be partnered by stable jockey Colin Keane.
Lake Victoria, trained by Aidan O’Brien, is also unbeaten in three starts. Like Babouche, she consecutively triumphed in a maiden, a Group 3, and the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 1). The key difference is that Babouche has only run over 6f, while Lake Victoria has exclusively competed over 7f.
Rayevka from France could be a dark horse. She’s raced twice: first finishing second on heavy ground and then winning the Prix de la Piste Rodosto (conditions) by a margin of 5 lengths on soft ground. At 14/1 on bet365, she’s an intriguing choice for each-way.
