Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
Juventus will provide Borussia Dortmund with their first true test of the campaign, and having already dropped points at the start of the Bundesliga, the Germans face a daunting task against one of Italy’s giants away from home.
Juventus
Juventus have already come through their own early examination, albeit not without drama. At the Allianz Stadium they shared a thriller with Inter in Serie A (4:3). The standout contributions came not from the usual suspects but from rarely scoring defenders. Lloyd Kelly opened the scoring, Gleison Bremer produced two assists, and 19-year-old substitute Vasilije Adžić sealed the win. All this after Juventus had trailed 2:3 during the match.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, had no issues in their most recent outing, brushing aside last season’s strugglers Heidenheim (2:0). The hosts helped the favourites’ cause with a reckless red card for a rash challenge in midfield during the first half. Yet Borussia have shown lapses in concentration: in their opening Bundesliga fixture away to St. Pauli, they contrived to throw away victory by conceding twice in the final five minutes to draw 3:3. That collapse stemmed from Filippo Mane’s red card for a foul inside the box.
Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
Juventus and Borussia Dortmund even met in pre-season at the Westfalenstadion, where the Italians also came out on top (2:1). There’s every chance the story will repeat itself here.
