Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Rome match.
Carlos Alcaraz is one of the main favourites of the tournament. However, on his way to the quarter-finals he will face a serious threat, Karen Khachanov. Betting sites don’t believe that the Russian player is able to beat Alcaraz. It’s not that obvious, though.
Karen Khachanov
Khachanov is in perfect form. He’s getting better from game to game in Rome. He beat Román Andrés Burruchaga (6:4, 5:7, 6:1), with the second set lost due to unforced errors. Karen then beat Passaro, leaving him no chance at all (6:3, 6:0). The Russian player feels perfectly well, playing on the clay. The last semi-final in Barcelona proved it. Khachanov only lost to number 10 Holger Rune (3:6, 2:6).
Carlos Alcaraz
The way Alcaraz plays is controversial. He has already faced Lajović and Djere in Rome. He won both games, although showing no domination at all. Carlos lost 50% of the breakpoints he had, which is not a usual thing for a player of his kind. His serve is getting worse due to the long games he performs.
Karen Khachanov vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction
Karen Khachanov can win at least a set. He can endure long playing and he’s confident with the breakpoints. This is going to be a key thing against Carlos Alcaraz.
