Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Marseille match.
Karen Khachanov faces Hamad Medjedovic in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille, played on hard courts. The young Serbian has recently broken into the top 100 for the first time, while Khachanov is looking to defend last year’s semi-final points.
Karen Khachanov
Khachanov started 2025 with an unexpected first-round elimination in Hong Kong, losing to Kei Nishikori (6:4, 3:6, 5:7). However, he performed relatively well at the Australian Open, reaching the third round but failing to defend his 2023 quarter-final points. Now in Marseille, he must defend an even bigger result—last year, Khachanov reached the semi-finals, losing only in a third-set tiebreak to Grigor Dimitrov.
Hamad Medjedovic
The 21-year-old Serbian has been making steady progress since turning professional in 2021. 2023 was a breakthrough season for him, as he secured his first ATP wins, finishing the year on a high by winning the Next Gen ATP Finals. This year, Medjedovic has already won a Challenger event in Oeiras, Portugal, and has shown promising form in the Davis Cup, where he stunned Holger Rune (ATP No. 12) in three sets.
Karen Khachanov vs Hamad Medjedovic Prediction
Medjedovic has great potential, and in the coming years, his name could become more prominent on the ATP Tour. However, for now, Khachanov’s experience and consistency make him the favourite. The Serbian won’t go down without a fight, though, and considering both players’ aggressive styles, we could see a tight match with long sets.
