Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Katie Boulter (WTA No. 43) produced arguably the biggest upset of the women’s draw so far, taking down world No. 9 Paula Badosa in the opening round (6:2, 3:6, 6:4). Up next is Solana Sierra (No. 101), in what, on paper, should be a far more straightforward assignment.
Katie Boulter
In her first match, Boulter was impressive both offensively and defensively. She won 63% of points on serve and 44% on return. Her serve was particularly effective, with six aces – equalling her season-best on grass. The Brit had already built up momentum coming into Wimbledon, but her performance still took many by surprise.
Solana Sierra
Sierra benefited from a favourable draw. She faced Olivia Gadecki (No. 103) in round one, but even that wasn’t a smooth ride — 6:2, 7:6. The Argentine was erratic, registering 28 unforced errors to 21 winners and showing nerves at key moments. She squandered five match points and allowed Gadecki 15 break chances, of which 10 were converted.
Katie Boulter vs Solana Sierra Prediction
Buoyed by the Badosa win, Boulter should continue her run through the draw with confidence. Sierra is unlikely to mount serious resistance.
