Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Kempton Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices' Chase (Grade 2, 2m, 4yo+) horse racing event.
Ballyburn justified his favourite status with a commanding victory in the Beginners Chase at Punchestown earlier this season, making his debut over fences. He has also claimed victory in Grade 1 races such as the Gallagher Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and the Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown. He is a serious contender for success.
Sir Gino is equally intriguing. Instead of facing Lossiemouth in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day, the decision was made to test him over fences. On the 30th of November, he impressively clinched victory in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, serving as an excellent preparation race for him. It seems we're set for another thrilling Anglo-Irish duel, and our preference here is for Sir Gino, who is priced at 5/4 on bet365.
Rubaud is also set for his chase debut. This season, he has started twice and won on both occasions: first taking a Listed Race at Kempton, and then the Elite Hurdle (Grade 2) at Wincanton in a field of three. Despite the short odds, he's more than capable of putting up a challenge.
Kalif Du Berlais has already competed in two chase races. He fell in his first outing but bounced back to win the Limited Handicap at Newbury. Yes, the competition is quite tough, but the field isn't very large.
Home Free finished second in the Paxtons For Genuine Kverneland Spares Handicap Chase in May this year. This season, he's had three starts in Handicap Chase, winning the first two.
Brookie won his season debut in the Novices' Limited Handicap Chase, but then had a disappointing run, finishing seventh behind Kalif Du Berlais in a Limited Handicap Chase.
