Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Las Palmas are currently in the relegation zone, and every match now carries significant weight in their bid to stay up. They are just three points behind 17th place, but time is running out. Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a European place, trailing the Europa League qualification spots by only two points. Both sides have plenty to play for.
Las Palmas
Las Palmas have endured a dismal second half of the campaign. They have suffered 10 defeats in their last 16 league outings, winning only twice during that stretch. Defensive vulnerabilities have been a major concern — with 56 goals conceded, only bottom club Real Valladolid have a worse record. The attack has not compensated either: the hosts have scored more than once in just three of those 16 games.
Rayo Vallecano
Rayo Vallecano recently halted a poor run with a 1:0 win over Getafe. Under Íñigo Pérez, they have embraced a pragmatic style, especially on the road, where they have seen the Total Over 3.5 line surpassed just once in 17 away fixtures. Yet Rayo Vallecano remain a threat going forward, having scored in 17 of their 21 matches since early December. That said, they have found it difficult to score against stronger opponents such as Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Villarreal, and also RCD Espanyol, who were unbeaten in five games at the time.
Las Palmas vs Rayo Vallecano Prediction
The hosts' defensive weaknesses have left them teetering on the edge of relegation. Their inability to shut teams out or produce consistent attacking output has seen them drop crucial points. Rayo Vallecano are likely to dictate the tempo, restricting Las Palmas in the final third while creating chances of their own. Avoiding defeat appears a realistic target. A goal-filled contest does not appear likely.
