Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
The battle for top positions in the Europa League group stage is intensifying in the final rounds. Lazio and Real Sociedad are keen to maintain their current spots, with the Basque side trailing the top eight by just one point ahead of Thursday's fixtures. However, they won't take unnecessary risks against the counter-attacking Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lazio
A key feature of the current Lazio side is their quick transition from defence to attack, but the coaching staff have also significantly bolstered their backline. In six European matches, the Romans have collected 16 out of a possible 18 points and conceded only three goals, boasting the best defence alongside Olympiacos. However, their form in 2025 has been less impressive—securing just one victory in three Serie A matches and creating 4.35 xG.
Real Sociedad
Since 15 December, Real Sociedad have played six matches across all competitions, with over 2.5 goals occurring in just one of them. On Sunday, Real Sociedad fell to La Liga's main underdog, Valencia, in an away fixture (0:1), producing only 0.81 xG with three shots on target over 90 minutes. The repeat injury of Arsen Zakharyan (ankle issues) leaves Imanol Alguacil without creative reinforcements, making it increasingly challenging for Mikel Oyarzabal, Brais Méndez, and Takefusa Kubo to carve out opportunities.
Lazio vs Real Sociedad Prediction
Lazio's last European outing at the Stadio Olimpico wasn't thrilling in terms of goals (0:0 with Ludogorets). Real Sociedad are unlikely to push for an open game—both sides will approach this encounter with caution.
