Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
It turns out that the last-minute victory over Oxford United in the second round remains Coventry City's only win by the end of September. Their trip to face Leeds United doesn’t promise anything good for them.
Leeds United
This Championship season, Leeds United have only lost once, to Burnley (0:1) in the fifth round, but their opponents have just returned from the Premier League and boast the most expensive squad in the league. Even then, Burnley barely escaped, spending most of the match defending and scoring on a counter-attack. Another key characteristic of Leeds' matches is that in five out of six games, at least one team didn’t score, and in those games, there was also the total under 3.5. Leeds were on the scoreless side only twice (the other time being a goalless draw with West Bromwich Albion).
Coventry City
Coventry City are not known for their attacking prowess. Only in that high-scoring win over Oxford United (3:2) did the team manage to score more than one goal. They didn’t score in two matches—against Stoke City and Norwich City. In the last round, even their defence started to falter, as they conceded twice to Swansea City, who are not typically prolific scorers, managing only one goal in response. In fact, more than three goals, even considering League Cup matches, have not been scored in Coventry City's games in the overwhelming majority of cases—eight out of nine.
Leeds United vs Coventry City Prediction
Both teams defend well enough, but Leeds United are also effective in attack, which is why our prediction favours the hosts combined with their favoured total under 3.5.
