Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Championship match
Leeds United were almost promoted to the Premier League last season. They failed to make the last successful step, being beaten by Southampton (0:1) in the play-offs final. The Peacocks face the new season as one of the main favourites of the tournament. Portsmouth are unlikely to be a problem.
Leeds United
Leeds United got over 100 million euro after selling Gray, Sinisterra, Summerville, Kamara, Llorente and Cresswell. However, the side hasn’t invested the money in new transfers yet. Despite failing to win promotion to the Premier League, Farke retains his head coach spot. Leeds United beat Harrogate Town (3:0) and Valencia (2:1) in the pre-season games. Rutter and Gnonto are the ones who really stand out in the current squad of the Peacocks. Some sides representing top 5 leagues still can buy these forwards but so far, they’re ready to crash the Championship.
Portsmouth
After a long downfall to the lowest divisions, Portsmouth are close to the Premier League. The side easily won the League One last season (97 points in 46 games). However, the rivalry will be fierce now. Portsmouth won three consecutive friendly games, however their last results leave much to be desired (a 1:1 draw versus MK Dons and a 0:2 defeat against Charlton Athletic).
Leeds United - Portsmouth Prediction
Leeds United deserve to be favourites. Their squad is better. Portsmouth will have no chance to beat the host side.
