Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
The final fixture of the English Football League Championship’s opening round sees Leicester City, recently relegated from the English Premier League, host Sheffield Wednesday. Leicester City will be aiming for an immediate return to the top flight, and a strong start is crucial to that objective.
Leicester City
Leicester City achieved their main summer objective: retaining a squad that, at times, showed flashes of quality in the English Premier League. In a pre-season friendly, they comfortably defeated ACF Fiorentina (2:0). Notably, winger Abdul Fatawu, who spent much of last season recovering from injury, finally found the net.
Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday played just one pre-season match and surprisingly lost 1:3 to Lincoln United. While the result raised eyebrows, there were numerous contributing factors. Already not the strongest squad in the division, they suffered several key departures over the summer. Among those leaving was Joshua Windass, who posted a 13+5 record last season.
Leicester City vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
We think Sheffield Wednesday will spend much of the coming season battling to avoid the relegation zone. Leicester City, by contrast, are among the favourites to win the English Football League Championship. We are not expecting much suspense from this fixture. A dominant win for the home side appears the most likely outcome.
