Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Leicester City
Despite Leicester's recent return to the Premier League and ongoing squad strengthening, their season start can hardly be called successful. It's commendable that they didn't lose to Tottenham (1:1), but they only really got into gear in the third part of the second half. Tottenham had a significant advantage in shots (15 (7) — 7 (3)) and possession (70% to 30%). Leicester City also lost to Fulham, despite a narrow margin (1:2). A match against a fourth-tier side offers a good opportunity for a morale boost.
Tranmere Rovers
Tranmere are boasting the most reliable defence in League 2: they haven’t conceded a single goal in their first three matches. Goalkeeper Luke McGee even saved a penalty in their last game. However, the team has only scored once, earning them just 5 points and placing them 12th. Scoring against Leicester City will be even more challenging, likely only from free kicks and corners. Tranmere's one goal, scored by Omari Patrick in the third round against Walsall, came from a free kick.
Leicester City - Tranmere Rovers Prediction
Despite Leicester City's poor start, head coach Steve Cooper might rest several key players. The younger or less experienced players will find it tough to break down a defensive opponent. If everything is to be decided in the second half, the final score might stay low. Leicester City will be looking for a win, as they haven't celebrated success in their last five matches.
