Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Liverpool
Liverpool dominate on their pitch. Even a goalless draw in the game versus Manchester United means nothing. Liverpool had 34 attempts in that game. The Reds set a record in number of shots without scoring a goal at least since the 2003/04 season.
West Ham
West Ham aren’t stable. They can be a tough nut to crack even in an away game against a top team. For example, the Hammers beat Tottenham (2:1), but were destroyed by Fulham in the next round (0:5). Nevertheless, West Ham have been pretty good in their attacking actions. They haven’t been able to score only in 2 Premier League games this season.
Liverpool – West Ham prediction
Liverpool have been playing perfectly in their home games this season. They have won 11 out of the 12 games on their pitch, scoring at least 2 goals in each of them. West Ham’s defence will have loads of work, which can be a problem, considering that this line has issues. The side is fourth from the bottom in the expected goals against on average (xGA = 1.71).
I believe that the attacking lines of both teams will be able to score quite many goals.
