Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Roland Garros match.
Reaching the second week at Roland Garros is already a career-defining moment for Lois Boisson. The French wildcard has made the most of her opportunity, but now comes the ultimate test: a showdown with world No.3 Jessica Pegula. For the American, this clash against the No.361 in the rankings is an ideal scenario at this stage of a Grand Slam.
Lois Boisson
Boisson has captured the hearts of the home crowd with her fearless run. She’s now won eight consecutive matches on clay and knocked out Elise Mertens (No.24), Anhelina Kalinina (No.113), and Elsa Jacquemot (No.138) to get here. That said, she dropped sets in two of those contests and was handed a 0-6 set by Jacquemot. Her overall record against top-100 opposition remains underwhelming: just two wins from nine attempts.
Jessica Pegula
Pegula has been in commanding form throughout the clay swing, winning 11 of 15 matches this season on the surface, including a title in Charleston. In Paris, she battled past Marketa Vondrousova in a come-from-behind victory, underlining her resilience and fitness. Crucially, Pegula has been ruthless against lower-ranked players — she’s won seven straight against opponents outside the top 100, often covering the handicap comfortably.
Lois Boisson vs Jessica Pegula Prediction
Boisson has proven she belongs on the big stage, but this is a different level entirely. Pegula’s consistency, tactical sharpness and ability to neutralise pace will be too much for the young Frenchwoman to handle. The American should cruise through with minimal fuss.
