Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
For Lorenzo Musetti, this is a golden opportunity to break into the semi-finals at Roland Garros for the first time. Frances Tiafoe, meanwhile, finds himself in rare territory — not only in the last eight of a Grand Slam, but doing so on clay, a surface that’s typically far from his comfort zone. Their paths to this stage couldn’t be more different: the Italian is enjoying a standout clay-court season, while Tiafoe is putting together the best red-dirt stretch of his career.
Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti has taken his game to another level in 2025. The world No.7 has now won 10 of his last 11 quarterfinal appearances and boasts an 18-3 record on clay this season. His run includes a final in Monte Carlo and semi-finals in both Madrid and Rome. At Roland Garros, he dropped just two sets and produced a masterclass against Holger Rune (No.10). While Tiafoe leads their head-to-head 4-3, Musetti won the only meeting on clay.
Frances Tiafoe
Tiafoe's run to the quarters has been admirable, but questions remain over his consistency on clay. Prior to this tournament, his clay record this season stood at 11 wins and six losses — respectable, but hardly dominant. His struggles against elite players are telling: just 13 wins from 49 meetings with top-10 opponents (26%). In Paris, he saw off Roman Safiullin, Pablo Carreno Busta, Daniel Altmaier, and Sebastian Korda — but only the latter is ranked inside the top 25. And Korda self-destructed with five double faults and a first-serve percentage of just 53%.
Lorenzo Musetti vs Frances Tiafoe Prediction
Musetti is in excellent form, playing one of the best stretches of his career, and appears to have the edge in all aspects of his game. Tiafoe made it to the quarter-finals of a tournament for the first time this season, and his campaign at this Roland Garros will come to an end.
