Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Club World Cup match.
The final play-off for qualification to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has taken an unexpected turn following the suspension of Club León. Los Angeles FC and Club América will now compete for a place in next year’s tournament, with the match scheduled to take place at the home stadium of Los Angeles FC.
Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC are not currently viewed as leading contenders for the MLS title this season, but they are on an impressive unbeaten run. Since 13 April, the squad have gone eight matches without a loss in the regular season, scoring at least twice in each of those games. Olivier Giroud, who initially struggled to make an impact after his move to the United States, has recently rediscovered his form, registering two goals and two assists across his last five appearances.
Club América
In contrast, Club América recently suffered a disappointing defeat in the final of the Mexican Clausura, losing 0:2 to Deportivo Toluca. Despite enjoying the majority of possession (63–37%) and superior ball control, their attacking output was lacking (0.34–1.30 in xG). The squad includes former Barcelona midfielder Jonathan dos Santos, along with Víctor Dávila, but across most areas of the pitch, they appear to be second best to Los Angeles FC. Their away form is particularly worrying, with five losses in six matches since early April and just a single goal scored during that period.
Los Angeles FC vs Club América Prediction
The two sides met recently in a pre-season friendly, which ended in a 2:1 win for Los Angeles FC. Club América may attempt to control the tempo in California, but that approach could prove risky. A bet on the hosts with a zero handicap looks the most sensible option.
