Luca Brecel
The first opponent for Brecel in this tournament is David Gilbert. Brecel will try to defend his title. The current champion was relaxing during all the previous season. He never showed what fans expected him to. Brecel breached late stages of some rating tournaments, even reaching finals, but he lost them, anyway. However, Luca Brecel was active the whole season and this was an advantage for him and his team. He should be ready to perform in the best way possible to prove what he gained last year.
David Gilbert
David Gilbert passed through qualification to reach these stages of the tournament. He beat David Lilley 10:4 and Xiao Guodong 10:6. Gilbert hasn’t performed in an extraordinary way this season. This tournament is the key event for him. His participation in the World Championship is a success already, considering how many breaks he’s had this season. David has had more games than Luca Brecel but the breaks he’s had are unlikely to be positive things.
Luca Brecel – David Gilbert prediction
I believe that the favourite will be confident, while Gilbert will be some kind of shy. At least at the beginning of the game. Brecel will play aggressively, with Gilbert performing series. I believe in the favourite, he should win this match 10:7 or 10:6
