Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Two of the bottom sides in the Championship meet at Kenilworth Road, with both desperate for three vital points. As a rescheduled fixture from round 31, the result carries extra weight, as a win against a direct relegation rival could be decisive.
Luton Town
Less than a year ago, Luton Town were battling to stay in the Premier League. Now, they find themselves bottom of the Championship, with little sign of revival. Perhaps Rob Edwards’ sacking came too late? Matt Bloomfield has yet to make a positive impact, with just two points in six matches under his management. As a result, Luton Town have dropped to last place for the first time this season.
Plymouth Argyle
On the surface, Plymouth Argyle may seem like an ideal opponent for Luton Town to take points from, but the reality is different. Plymouth have collected seven points in their last five matches, a rate that places them around mid-table form (11th-15th place). Their four-match unbeaten run and three-match winning streak were ended by Blackburn Rovers (0:2) at Ewood Park. A win here would lift Plymouth out of the relegation zone for the first time since round 18, giving them huge motivation.
Luton Town vs Plymouth Argyle Prediction
A win would move Luton Town up to 22nd place but not out of the relegation zone. However, Plymouth Argyle remain winless away from home all season, making them the underdogs despite recent improvements. Rather than backing an uncertain victory for Luton Town, the under 2.5 goals bet stands out as the better option. Luton’s last four home matches have all gone under 2.5 goals and Plymouth’s last five away games have seen four under 2.5 goals results.
