Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Luton Town have reached rock bottom – they now sit last in the Championship table. Right after achieving this unwanted milestone, they welcome second-placed Sheffield United, a team they were relegated alongside from the Premier League last season.
Luton Town
Sacking Rob Edwards didn’t help, and after wasting two months searching for a replacement, the appointment of Matt Bloomfield has failed to improve the situation. The squad remains one of the most expensive in the division (6th highest market value), yet results continue to disappoint. Their last match? Another failure – a defeat to Sunderland (0:2), another club pushing for Premier League promotion. That result extended their winless run to nine matches, including seven straight defeats without a single point.
Sheffield United
Sheffield United have evolved – they’re no longer grinding out narrow 1:0 wins but have begun scoring more freely. Their last two home games saw a 2:1 win over Portsmouth and a 3:1 victory against Middlesbrough. Their away form is strong too – five wins in their last six trips, with the only slip-up being a 1:2 loss to Sunderland.
Luton Town vs Sheffield United Prediction
Luton Town already suffered a comfortable defeat to Sheffield United in the reverse fixture and are unlikely to avoid the same fate here. We’re backing a win for Sheffield United.
