Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Both teams have been struggling with their recent form: Luton Town haven’t secured a win in three matches, while Stoke City are winless in five. Both sides are desperate for points to distance themselves from the relegation-threatened zone.
Luton Town
Luton Town find themselves in 18th place partly due to a long injury list, with nine players currently sidelined. Only two of them, centre-back Reece Burke and central midfielder Liam Walsh, might potentially feature on Tuesday. This makes it increasingly difficult to compete. Both were absent in the last two rounds, where Luton first fell to Norwich City (2:4) and then missed out on a win against Swansea City at home (1:1). Forward Elijah Adebayo, who scored in both matches, was also injured in the game against the Welsh side. It’s uncertain if he’ll be fit to play.
Stoke City
Stoke, on the other hand, have only four injury concerns and have been playing without these players for some time. Their recent results are understandable, given the opposition. In the 18th and 19th rounds, Stoke City faced top-six representatives Burnley (0:2) and Sunderland (1:2). Sunderland netted the winner only in the 86th minute despite having twice or thrice as many chances (25–11 in shots, 10–3 in shots on target, 2.47–0.79 in xG).
Luton Town vs Stoke City Prediction
Luton Town are currently a side that virtually any team can beat. Despite scoring on par with Stoke City (21 goals to 20), their defence has allowed more goals (34), only fewer than Plymouth Argyle (38). The hosts are likely to concede on Tuesday, which will prevent them from claiming victory.
